Why is the new boat called 'Torpedo'?
Due to the shape of the boat, the shape of the cleats and how it runs in the water. It’s an easy name to remember and reflects a high performance boat.
Is the Torpedo designed for use on the sea or on the lake?
It is designed and built for high seas, which is why it is ideal on the French Riviera and will therefore also cross any lake with ease.
What is J Craft doing to be greener?
The wood used is Rainforest free and the Volvo Penta Motors are built to the environmental criteria for 2015. The boat is built in a very safe environment for the builders in a vacuum infusion space so that they do not have to wear masks or protective clothing. Furthermore it has a very low fuel consumption.
How long does each boat take to manufacture?
About 4,000 man-hours goes into Torpedo, which equates to around five to six months build time, depending on specification.
Do your artisans require any particular J Craft training or do they simply use Swedish boat building skills handed down through generations?
They are highly trained and many of the techniques are quite modern, such as the vacuum infusion process used for the hull. However, traditional skills are utilized throughout the boat and in particular on items such as the wooden decking.
Which technological innovations and features on the Torpedo are you most proud of and why?
It is difficult to select a specific area. The craftsmanship is second to none and something that is regularly commented on. The performance from the VOLVO Penta engines is fantastic and the IPS drives make the boat very maneuverable. Event the shape of of the hull is quite unique and quite beautiful. However, it is the Torpedo as whole that I am most proud. This is a stylish boat that does everything you could want and is very, very easy to own and enjoy.
